Failsafe Design

Is it possible to drop the load while it is suspended in the air?

The elebia remote hook CAN’T DROP SUSPENDED LOADS. To release the load, the motor must rotate the hook, lifting the load contained therein. Motor’s torque is not enough to open the hook when a load is suspended. It is necessary to open the hook to release the rigging accessory. This way, we can release the slings, but no heavy loads.

This is a feature of all our designs, geometrically failsafe, without any sensors or electric components. It’s gravity avoiding the opening of the hook if there’s any load suspended. In addition, elebia hooks incorporate an STL (Security Torque Limit). An electronic device that controls the motor torque and cancels the operation if an overload is detected.

If the order to open the hook is mistakenly sent and the load is suspended, the operation is interrupted and inverted (the hook closes automatically).

In order to avoid mistakes and involuntary operations, to open or close the hook a button press sequence is needed.

1) Spring-acted latch, while allowing the engagement thereof by applying a small pressure.

2) Rigid latch for more extreme operations (marine, offshore), where constant movements can contribute to the leaking of the slings from the hook.

Can you open the hook with the load suspended? The hook is not able to open and drop the loads over 20 kg (adjustable). It is a failsafe design. Gravity keeps the hook in closed position.

What if we try to release the lifting accessories, for example, the chains? The STL prevents the hook to release the loads and lifting accessories while they’re suspended. There’s no way to drop the load if it is suspended in the air. The geometry and the STL combined makes impossible to drop any loads if these aren’t properly released on the floor.

What if the battery ends in the middle of an operation? The hook will always be closed even if it ends its battery. Due to its geometry and its design the load will always be properly positioned on the center of the hook avoiding any chance of opening it.
